Cute gift, easy treat and winter booty

I am SO excited about Christmas this year.  Having kids that are excited about Christmas makes it exciting for me.  Word of the day is, EXCITING. AHHH!
What gift have you bought for someone that you love?  I love gift giving.  I pride myself on being a good gift giver.  Except for last year.  I bought my mom and dad a lame garbage can that they actually threw in the garbage.  I felt bad. I didn't know it was lame.  The teasing will continue for years, I'm sure. I digress.

Now, I shall ruin Gina's surprise and show you what I bought for her.

This is a nesting doll measuring cup set!  Oh so cute.  I had to get myself a set, too.  Is this something Gina needs?  Not necessarily.  But as a fellow baker, I know that this will add a smile to her face each time she busts a move in the kitchen.

Because I'm on a nesting doll kick, I bought these notecards.  Don't know who they're for yet.

I'm going to a cookie exchange party tonight.  I haven't made my Christmas cookies yet (next week), and I'm in a time crunch, so I decided to go with a bar recipe. Chocolate Raspberry Crumb Bars to be exact.
SEEDLESS raspberry jam, sweetened condensed milk and chocolate chips....
This FABULOUS flour is from Costco.  Tastes like white flour but has all of the benefits of whole grain.

A cup of choco chips.  Hey, lady, turn that frown upside down.
 Here's the recipe:
1 cup of butter softened
2 cups all purpose flour
1/2 cup packed light brown sugar
1/4 teaspoon of salt
2 cups semi sweet chocolate chips, divided
1 1/4 cups (14 ounce can) sweetened condensed milk
1/2 cup chopped nuts (optional)
1/3 cup seedless raspberry jam (I use double this)

PREHEAT oven to 350 degrees.  Beat butter in large mixer bowl until creamy.  Beat in flour, sugar and salt until well mixed.  With floured fingers, press 1 3/4 cups crumb mixture into bottom of greased 9x13 baking dish.  reserve remaining mixture.  Bake for 10-12 minutes or until edges are golden brown.
COMBINE 1 cup morsels and sweetened condensed milk in a small, heavy duty saucepan.  Melt over low heat, stirring until smooth.  Spread over hot crust.
 STIR nuts into reserved crumb mixture; sprinkle over chocolate filling.  Drop teaspoons of jam over crumb mixture.  Sprinkle with remaining morsels.  Continue baking for 25-30 minutes or until center is set.  Cool completely on wire rack.

I leave you now with a picture of my darling 2 year old son in his snow pants.  There isn't anything like a diapered kid with snow pants.  I call it winter booty.  If he falls, it won't hurt, that's for dang sure.  No comments on like mother, like son, please.  I'm still sensitive about the garbage can from last year for cryin' eye.
